I am quite a fan of Saul Bass. He was basically a self- taught commercial artist. He has a rich diverse portfolio of work brand and print work; United Way, AT&T, Quaker, Girl Scouts and he also designed some amazing movie posters and changed the way that we view movies by designing unique title sequences.

He is inspiring as he did not limit himself to one media and with little knowledge of animation he moved forward into designing title sequences in films. He is still inspiring other artists who use his similar style, which is very present in the credit sequence ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ and the new ‘Burn After Reading’ posters.

Luba Lukova has been a favorite of designer of mine. Her work is powerful and thought provoking. With her use of bold colors and strong black design elements she touches on subjects from healthcare, peace, war, ecology, immigration and privacy.

Because I enjoy painting and sketching a great deal myself as well as graphic design I tend to like a free style of design verses structure. I came across Joel Elrod’s work and fell in love with his whimsical and mischievous style. He is a Rock Poster Designer and has done work for Jack Johnson, Korn, Creed, Bob Dylan, as well as editorial illustrations for Rolling Stone, News Week, Texas Monthly to name a few. Because of the venue he works in he has a bit more freedom with his designs, which keeps his work rich and bold.
